The Story of "Splendid Error "
Frederick Douglass, an American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in Maryland, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, during which he gained fame for his oratory and incisive antislavery writings. He became one of the most prominent American historical figures of the 19th century. He and his friend, devoted abolitionist, Captain John Brown, a white man, passionately discuss the complexities of freeing enslaved Africans in pre civil war America, months before John Brown’s 1859 raid at Harpers Ferry Virginia. The play takes place at Frederick Douglass’ home in Rochester, New York.
