Almashihu (The Promised)
Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: the virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and we will call him Immanuel. – Isaiah 7:14. (This is not a regular story Jesus story)
Almasihu (the promised) is a an experimental drama, written by Adeyemo Elizabeth (Smiley). It’s a comedy about what happens if Jesus Christ is born in Nigeria. Baby Jesus comes through Mariam, an Hausa young lady, a fiancee to Joseph, who is from the Igbo tribe. War happens as the two tribe aren’t United and won’t allow marriage from another tribe. Chaos upon Chaos happens as soon as they figure that there’s something special about the unborn baby. Everyone tries to claim the baby including the colonial master. As promised, Baby Jesus fulfils the word of God and finds his way out of his mother’s womb and into the earth to bring peace and unite every tribe here in Nigeria. The major tribes and some minor tribes are being represented in the play and it explores an experiment whereby the Angel is yemoja with her acolytes and there is a woman amongst the three wise men.
